Much has already been written on the General Elections in Zambia on the 13th of August, 2026.  Amongst the outstanding statements made on Zambia's political history and the imminent general elections is one by Dante Saunders in the Social media.   The facts he enumerated on the political history of Zambian and what governments have since independence done, is well portrayed.

But in mentioning the people who fought for and led the political struggle, he in advertently, omitted the father of the nation.  Kenneth David Kaunda who spear headed the struggle.  KK should be remembered by Zambia and the whole of Africa for the role he played in the Liberation of some Countries South of the Sahara.   These countries include Zimbabwe, Angola, Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa and so on.

Zambia has had many political parties recently and all these parties are fighting tooth and nail to win elections.  Some parties have no manifestos and perhaps their manifestos will appear after the elections. The party that should win the elections is the one that has a manifesto and a plan for the development of Zambia and its citizens.

H.E. President Hakainde Hichilema has told the nation what his government has done during his term of office and he has told the people what the state of Zambia was when he took over power in 2023.

Economic Recovery:  Working to stabilize growth following severe drought impacts on agriculture and power generation.

Debt and Development: Working towards debt sustainability reforms and economic diversification away from reliance on the copper sector.

Poverty and Employment: Fighting high poverty rates in rural and urban sectors, alongside ongoing pushes for job creation.

Zambia’s should in the elections vote for the party that has plans to deliver goods and services to the people of Zambia.  They should vote for fully-sighted party leaders and not the blind or partially sighted leaders.  People should not vote blindly, they must vote for true and tested leadership.

Mere political gymnastics should be discounted.  Zambia should continue to aim at how best they can serve the nation and not what the leaders can benefit most from the nation.
